The EDEN (European Destinations of Excellence) Project, launched by the European Commission in 2006, gave Italy the opportunity of choosing no fewer than 30 emerging destinations between 2007 and 2011 that have proved their ability to develop a range of tourist services and attractions within the parameters of sustainability, with the proper balance between the objectives of economic growth and the social, cultural and environmental aspects of tourism.

The Regional Park of the Euganean Hills was named a destination of excellence as part of the Eden 2009 – Tourism and Protected Areas EU project, coming fourth in a league table of five selected areas out of the 55 that had participated in the competition nationwide.

In Brussels in October 2012, the Regional Park of the Euganean Hills attended a meeting organised by the European Commission entitled ‘Stronger Together – Expanding the European Destinations of Excellence Network’, during which it officially joined the EDEN Network of Destinations with a declaration signed by its representative, Antonella Buson (see photo), a member of the park authority’s executive committee.
